Unit of analysis

In short, the unit of analysis is what or who is being studied: individuals, countries, religious groups, conflicts, companies, treaties, political parties, etc.

  • In a dataset, the unit of analysis is the what or who contained in a single row.

A change in the unit of analysis may have strong implications in how we see data. Who would have won the last local elections in Barcelona if there was one vote for each …?:

  1. District.
  2. Neighbourhood.
  3. Census section.
